One of the first things an overseas Filipino misses is the food. It is not a problem if you are in a place full of kabayans, like Dubai or Singapore or Hong Kong. But if you are in a country with a very tiny Filipino population, it is harder to get the taste of home.

So you can imagine my surprise when I found out about this 100% Filipino coffee house in Budapest – Barako Kávéház owned and operated by Ryan and Luelyn Andres. Kabayan!

Barako prepares their coffee from barako beans (Liberica variety). Locals flock to this place at all times of the day. Looks like our barako is getting more popular! I myself am a huge fan: in fact, I came to Hungary with 2 kilos of ground barako in my luggage.

During summer, their menu is even more special with the addition of Filipino favorites, halo-halo and ube shake! I live a bit far from the coffee shop but I go all the way just for my Filipino fix.

Now that summer is officially over, I say goodbye to my favorite shake and halo-halo, and wait impatiently for my next taste my favorite icy Filipino faves.
