Budapest debuts new Metro 3 trains

Just this morning, I had the pleasant surprise of riding one of the first 4 new trains on the Metro 3 line of the Budapest subway system. I didn’t even know there were supposed to be new trains. My colleague said it was in the news that week but I don’t have a TV in…

Happy 2016!

January 1, 2016
By

Happy new year!  Uhm, I am not going to make excuses for 2015, nor am I going to make resolutions for 2016. But just like last year, I know I will live this year in my own fashion — not in any way that people dictate. I will do what I want with what I’ve…

Heartbreak Monday: Masha is married!!

September 28, 2015
By

So all good things must end. Today, September 28, 2015, singer-songwriter/heartthrob extraordinaire Fukuyama Masaharu married actress Fukiishi Kazue.  Several years back, I posted something about the rumour going around that they are dating. The agencies were quick to deny, or course. But now, they have confirmed it and have registered their marriage. This day is…

Salted egg pasta recipe

Yesterday, I took the day off from work because of a very bad headache. It was a hellish commute home on Tuesday night because of the downpour. “Carmageddon” on EDSA and…basically everywhere. I live in Taguig, a mere 3.4 km away from my workplace and it takes me forever to get home during a rain.…

DIY beach-themed mirror

My father has had a crappy green mirror in his house for the longest time. It belonged to my sister and left it with him when she moved to a new house. When we moved into the new house last year, the mirror came with us. I didn’t have a full-length mirror of my own…

June Language Update – What update?

June was very mean to me. May too. But especially June. I was snowed under with tons of work — I am not complaining. I love what I do at the office, and I get great feedback with my work. But things started to pick up in May then became a full-blown monster in June.…

Charlie Chan Chicken Pasta – at home!

I started teaching a new class today and boy, was I tired! I took a nap as soon as I got home, and when I woke up at 7-ish, I was famished. I realized I haven’t eaten anything substantial the entire day. Let’s see…I had a can of Nescafe espresso roast (I am addicted to…

Herbed rice recipe

The very first time Sheila and Mara (and Zoe!) visited my house, we went to this chicken restaurant called Wingman. It is fairly near my place and I’ve been meaning to go but never got the chance until they came.  I ordered their original wings with herbed rice. I remember how I practically inhaled my…

20 years of Back For Good

April 17, 2015
By

This iconic boyband song turned 20 years old this year. TWENTY. Let that sink for a while…then enjoy this video! I prefer this version than the original music video because it shows the guys much older (and hotter) and very dapper. Heh. I had my eyes on Jason all the time. Sorry, Robbie! Speaking of…

My head is full of languages

April 6, 2015
By

Over the long weekend, I was assessing my language goals and came up with a short list of the things that I want to learn. The first list, these are the languages that I need to learn by 2015. That is roughly one language each year. Then, the next list contains languages that I am…

Throwback Thursday: University graduation

Rewind to 14 years ago: the place was the PICC Plenary Hall. The event was the graduation ceremony of all economics and accounting students of UST.  I came with my parents, 2 sisters and my grandmother. Full force. Well, I was the first grandchild in the family, so it was a big deal.  I remember…

one does not simply learn hungarian

Or, the original title: Language learning update – week ending 15 March Japanese On days that I badly needed some extra sleep minutes, I would begin to think that this whole JLPT N1 thing was a bad idea…just 3 weeks in and I am starting to dread my flashcards. I have got 18 decks for…

And Damion, wow, this guy knows a lot already!! Talaga? Magaganda ang babae sa Pilipinas? Hahaha. Seriously, love love love Moses and his method, FLR. These guys are wonderful…

Bogart the Explorer interviews Hugh Jackman!

March 15, 2015

I am a huge fan of Bogart — he is spontaneous and his jokes are original. He was in an air freshener commercial before — I remember that I wasn’t really paying attention; I was so surprised when I saw that the guy talking was not Australian but Filipino!! In this video, he interviews Hugh…

Language learning update – March 8

Ta-daaa! Look who made it through week 2. And only one black item. Whew. I am getting used to a routine and it’s not so bad. In general, I tend to keep Japanese in the morning and Hungarian in the afternoon. In the evening, I try to brush up on items by “watering” things on…

Filipino Nathan Hermida on The Voice

March 10, 2015
By

Seventeen year old Nathan Hermida joins the likes of JR Aquino and Chesa to pass the Blind Auditions of The Voice. He sounded so smooth and mature, and he got Adam and Christina to turn around.

Check out Blake’s face at the 1:29 mark. :) I also loved how Pharrell requested that he play again. I really wish he will go far in the competition. I am for Team Pharrell again, but I am rooting for Nathan!

Here is a commercial for ING, featuring the awesome Ewan Mcgregor — who decided to change his name to “Ewann” Of course, I didn’t understand what he said in Hungarian — but he made the language even sexier than it already is :)  Here is the link, see his awesomeness for yourself: http://index.hu/mindekozben/poszt/2015/03/03/ekes_magyar_nyelven_segit_eligazodni_ewan_mcgregor_a_biztosito_nevvaltasaban/

Language learning update – Week ending 1 March 2015

As I said previously, I have re-evaluated my language goals and have put together a daily plan to ensure that I am on track with these goals. My reaction to this first week? Whew! I survived!! It wasn’t easy, especially at the end of the weekday, when for some unknown reason, work started to pour in.…

Circle of Five

A writer once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” If this is true, which five people would you like to spend your time with? Inspiration from Daily Post I didn’t even have to think hard about this.  Balázs – my favourite reason to lose sleep you…

Super Language Overhaul

I have a confession: I don’t think I would succeed in my very first italki challenge. It was going well and I had this plan of taking 5 sessions of French first, then Hungarian second. I finished all my sessions for basic French almost midway into the challenge. Then after that, I booked another package…
