Gordon-Bayani 2010

Let's go!

Even though I couldn’t get that “nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura” song outta my head, my 2010 vote still goes to the REAL people who have made a difference in the country: Richard Gordon and Bayani Fernando, the dream tandem. Without a doubt, they have proven many times over what ‘public service’ means, and for that, I believe they are the only ones worthy of my vote.

I remember interviewing Dick Gordon when I was still in Malacanang for a hush-hush project. Pfft. I was so nervous because I got this “masungit” vibe from him. My friend Pam (who is a proud Olongapo resident) assured me Gordon is super nice; I just have to listen. It was such a great interview — he was nice (to my surprise, hehe) and he really knew his stuff. Well, he doesn’t need to speak so much — his accomplishments speak for themselves.

As for Bayani, I have long admired him for his sense of discipline and his LOVE for his city of Marikina. I first saw him on TV, when he was wading through the swollen Marikina River, trying to rescue people stranded because of the flood. I was thinking, this guy is the mayor — why is he doing the ‘dirty’ stuff. Obviously, that time I thought all mayors loved to leave the dirty work to their subordinates. Bayani Fernando is definitely an exception 😉 I currently live in Pasig, near the Marikina border and I always tell people that it is easy to tell which side is Marikina and which is Pasig. Marikina is the much, much more beautiful side. Haha.

I hope people will vote wisely (I know, such a cliche) and go past beyond the famous family names and the catchy election songs and scrutinize the track records of our future leaders. We deserve good leaders like Gordon-Bayani. Let’s give the Philippines a chance.
