The Voice season 2: Battle Rounds night 3

Posted by Cat Ramos

We’re halfway through the Battle Rounds. Whew, that was fast! Before we know it, it’s the Live Shows and we have ourselves a new Voice winner!

1. Pip vs Nathan Parrett (You Know I’m No Good) – Nathan’s blind audition wasn’t aired on AXN Asia so I was kind of surprised at him holding his own again’s the powerful Pip. Yes, he’s got a raw kind of power that really makes one sit up and listen. Of course, we all know Pip is all good. I love Pip’s swagger and smooth sound and I felt he has more control over his vocals.

2. Erin Martin vs the Shields Brothers (What’s Love Got to Do With It) – An odd song choice for this pairing. The brothers were a little noisy but when they were told to “pull back” from all that, they got their harmony going and sounded so much better. While Erin doesn’t have a lot of power in her voice, she made up for it with her unique sound. But I still don’t like the way she pronounces some of the words. I would have wanted the brothers to win but oh well. I hope CeeLo made the right choice.

3. Ashley dela Rosa vs Jonathas (No Air) – Jonathas is obviously the more mature and experienced singer while Ashley is still struggling to find her own style. But the combination of their voices plus the brilliant choreography made for an interesting battle. I don’t know who I wanted to win, but Xtina made the choice for me. Haha. While more experienced, Jonathas does have the tendency to sound like this singer or that singer, while with Ashley, I think Xtina will have a better canvas to work with in the Live Shows.

4. Alyx vs Jermaine Paul (Get Out Of My Dreams and Into My Car) – So that’s the title of this song! I’ve been hearing this since I was a kid and I loved it. I just never bothered to look up the title. Jermaine has got more personality and better stage presence. I love how he’s controlled with his moves and I love his choreography. During the battle, I wish they had more interaction during the “hey-hey-hey” part of the song. Jermaine is the obvious winner of this battle. Alicia Keys will need to get a new backup vocalist fast!

5. Angel Taylor vs Katrina Parker (Bleeding Love) – Angel is one of my favourites but from the start, I thought Katrina has the upper hand in the battle. She is more soulful and emotional and you can just lose yourself in the song just because she is the one singing it. I feel bad for Angel, I hope she won’t quit after this.

6. Gwen Sebastian vs Erin Willett (We Belong) – This song is tailor-made for sultry Erin — this is even Xtina-approved! Until the winner is announced, I was praying that Blake won’t make the same mistake he did when he sent Adley Stump home and chose the country singer. Thank God he chose Erin! I thought it was sweet of the Voice production to dedicate the episode to Erin’s dad who passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. I know he is singing in heaven after seeing his daughter move on to the Live Show. The better Erin, I love your Slytherin ring!
