Tigers eliminated in Champions’ League

Posted by Cat Ramos

Sorry news for Tigers’ fans, including myself. (And it looks like Chris Camus won’t be coming back to the Tigers’ lineup next season..daaaaamn). But on a lighter note, looks like Kevin Ferrer and Jamil Sheriff are really stepping up. 🙂 Basketball future looks bright indeed, YAY!

THE GROWLING Tigers failed to enter the Sweet 16 after absorbing a 67-72 loss at the hands of the De La Salle University Green Archers in their Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) encounter at the Arena in San Juan Monday.

UST lacked enough offensive firepower in the absence of team captain Jeric Fortuna and fellow gunner Jeric Teng. Rookie Kevin Ferrer exploded with 23 points and six rebounds, but his effort fell short against the Archers’ hot shooting.

The Tigers trailed by only two points, 67-69, late in the final quarter following a lay-up by Ferrer and two free throws by Jamil Sheriff. But La Salle kept its poised and closed the game strong.

“We lost the game because we only had a week to train,” said coach Pido Jarencio.

Joshua Webb led the Archers with 16 points and five rebounds.

De La Salle 72 – Webb 16, Vosotros 13, de la Paz 12, Marata 10, Revilla 8, Torres 7, Tampus 2, Paredes 2, Mendoza 2, Gotladera 0, Sara 0

UST 67 – Ferrer 23, Vigil 9, Lo 9, Sheriff 6, Afuang 6, Abdul 5, Camus 5, Javier 2, Pe 2, Tan 0, Lao 0, Ungria 0

Quarter scoring: 18-13, 40-39, 64-54, 72-67
