Singapore Sojourn: a first timer’s Lion City experience (part 2)

After Louis Vuitton, we went around a few more shops and took in the sights. I really loved this store called The Wright Gift. It is filled with unique-bordering-on-weird items.

When I go back to SG, I might buy that chess salt-and-pepper set. So beautiful.

This restaurant is owned by the famous Mario Batalli.

And of course, I wouldn’t pass up the chance to shop at Sephora! I got a few Mario Badescu, Soap and Glory, and Benefit items.

This horse is part of the promotions for the ongoing Harry Potter exhibit at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands. Recognize this? It’s Ron’s horse in the wizard chess challenge in the movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”, where he took the position of the knight in the giant chess board.

We are to have dinner at Makansutra Gluttons Bay, located at the Esplanade, right across the water. The perfect place, in my opinion, because I was feeling rather gluttonous after all that walking. We had some time to kill because the next ferry isn’t until 8:30pm.

So we just sat outside the ferry ticket office, chatting, people watching, and enjoying the view of the water and the Singapore skyline. A short while later, there were fireworks. Apparently, this is a rehearsal for the August 9th festivities. Wow, they are rehearsing for my birthday 😉

Makansutra Gluttons’ Bay

Makansutra Gluttons Bay is one of the top hawker places in Singapore. It is not as big as the others, but it is just as popular. It is named after a famous food guide in Singapore. Like the other hawker centres, Gluttons Bay has many stalls selling sumptuous local food at very affordable prices. Just the place to go to when you want to sample as  many local dishes as possible.

The place was already packed when we got there but we were lucky enough to get a table at the far end of the dining area, near the drinks stall.

Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long and soon, we were stuffing our faces with delicious chicken wings, satay (served with onions, cucumber and ketupat – something that looks and tastes like our native puto), kailan (a savory vegetable dish), cereal prawns and yang chow seafood fried rice.

The price of each dish depends on the size of your order. For example, the smallest dish of cereal prawns costs SGD 15, while the largest is SGD 25. Each dish is normally sold in 3-4 different sizes.

I loved everything we ordered! I was so full I didn’t think I could stand up and walk on my own. Haha.

After that lovely dinner, it was time to go home and rest, and prepare for another day of Singapore adventures. 🙂
