Boyz II Men sings Utada Hikaru’s “First Love”

I’ve been a fan of Boyz II Men since I was in high school. When Lara posted in Japinoy.com that they will be doing covers of popular Japanese songs, I was very intrigued. According to news, they will sing the following:

“Missing” – Kubota Toshinobu
“First Love” – Utada Hikaru
“Yuki no Hana” – Nakashima Mika
“Itoshi no Ellie” – Southern All Stars
“Saigo no Ame” – Nakanishi Yasushi
“EVERYTHING” – MISIA ♥ ♥ ♥
“Sen no Kaze ni Natte” – Man Arai (Not familiar with him, I only know Akikawa Masafumi, hehe)
“WINTER SONG” – DREAMS COME TRUE (For a while there, I thought this was the Kiroro song)
“Heavenly White” – EXILE…YAAAAY!

Among the songs in the list, I am looking forward to First Love, EVERYTHING, Sen no Kaze ni Natte and Itoshi no Ellie.  That last one is popularly known to Pinoys as April Boy’s “Honey My Love, So Sweet” — but the song was a Southern All Stars’ original.

What do you think?

My verdict: I LOVE IT! I think they did justice to the song (I might be biased, though, because I am a fan). The translation wasn’t spot on, but maybe that was done on purpose. It wasn’t verbatim, but the lyrics were beautiful, nonetheless. Also, their harmony was just impeccable.
