Kudos, Michael Christian Martinez!

Kevin turned the office TV on just in time for us to watch this young man perform.

Imagine that: a Filipino figure skater in the Winter Olympics. Yep, 17-year-old Michael Christian Martinez is the sole representative of the Philippines in the Sochi Winter Olympics 🙂

His journey to Sochi was not an easy one — he did not have much funding for training and his parents even had to use their house just to raise money. Thankfully, he also got huge support from the private sector, from the likes of the Sy Family which owns SM (and the rink he skates in).

He beat the odds and now he is skating for the country. My heart just swells with pride for this promising young man. He has such a bright future in skating.

Kevin and I were being emotional as he was performing…and we clapped at the end of the routine. Fans!

To end this post, let me just say that, with the exception of basketball players (those coming from the PBA only), our government is treating our athletes like shit.

For example, have you heard of the measly “Christmas bonus” the athletes got last year (and the athletes donated the money to Typhoon Yolanda victims)? Compare that with the bonuses received by officials of GOCCs. It is appalling.

Please, please let us revamp our sports programs. Let us give our athletes all the support they deserve. 20140214-031507.jpg
