The Patapat Viaduct is a 1.3 km concrete winding bridge at the foot of the North Cordillera Mountain range and it connects the Ilocos Region to Cagayan Valley. Standing 31 meters above sea level, it affords a breathtaking view of Pasaleng Bay. It is often called the French Riviera of the Northern Philippines and many TV commercials have been shot here (including one for gasoline, if I remember correctly).
Somehow, the image I conjured in my mind is me in a red convertible, with my long hair flying in the breeze as I drive on this bridge 😛
Before the viaduct was constructed, motorists had to use a one-way road higher up the mountain. Because it was very narrow, traffic jams were the norm and accidents were quite common.
It was constructed during the Marcos administration and unveiled to the public on October 1986.
