Daily Prompt: Origin Story
Why did you start your blog? Is that still why you blog, or has your site gone in a different direction than you’d planned?
In the beginning, there were Pam, Tanya, Jervin and Cat: four government employees bored out of their skulls and looking for a way to pass the time.
One of them decided to start a blog just for the heck of it and began to enjoy writing. The others saw that it was good and followed suit.
Each one wrote regularly about everything. Anything at all. Confident that there are at least three people who will religiously read the blog and comment on it.
I named my blog “Silver strands in my pensieve”, inspired by harry potter. It was a repository of all my thoughts and ramblings, with no censorship whatsoever.
Being able to write whatever I want without thinking of the repercussions is therapeutic. I enjoyed it so much and I wrote almost everyday. Eventually, I stopped caring about whether I get comments or visits. I wrote and wrote.
My blog grew with me and saw me in different stages of my life: changes in jobs, changes in romantic relationships, changes in friendships, changes in credit status and a lot more. I grew up, changed interests, priorities, writing styles and blog platforms.
The reasons why I blog are essentially the same: self expression and personal enjoyment. But of course, now I do with less drama, rants and secrets. Also, I post things which I think might benefit other people, be it about starting language learning, which BB cream to buy if you are tanned or where to get Kimmidolls in the Philippines.
I am having so much fun, I expect I’ll be doing this for a very looong time.
