First day of trabajo – Noynoy and GMA

After the inauguration, who did more on their first day in office? I got this from Antipinoy.com and I just wanted to share the love. 😉

Day One in the Noynoy republic (July 1, 2010):

NOYNOY AQUINO, President:

– Noynoy Aquino’s people issued a botched memo terminating Gloria appointees, which they were forced to recall because it created widespread confusion in government offices.
– A presscon was canceled at the last minute, a sign things that were supposed to be ready were not ready. Press people annoyed.

GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, Congressman:

– Filed House Resolution No. 8 calling for a constitutional convention to amend the seriously obsolete 1987 Cory Constitution that is perhaps the number one cause of stunted progress in the Philippines
– Filed House Bill 172 – An act establishing the framework of governance and development of Philippine education through integrating the Department of Education (DepEd) Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) into one agency called the Department of Education and Training (DET)
– Filed House Bill 173 – An act amending RA 6374 or the Organic Acts for the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and creating the autonomous regions of Southwestern and Central Mindanao
– Filed House Bill 174 – An act banning the catching, sale, purchase, possession, transportation and exportation of all sharks and rays in the country (Arroyo is a scuba diver, maybe that’s why she has a soft spot for sharks and rays)
– Filed House Bill 175 – An Act establishing and maintaining lactation stations in workplaces (good for welfare of mothers)
– Filed House Bill 176 amending RA 8550 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines

We’ll have to look at the details of these bills, but they look very useful.
