I admit I was a late bloomer with Skinfood products. It was only through various blogs and forum discussions that I decided to see what the hype is all about. So I went ahead and ordered, what else, a BB cream!:D
Based on what I have read, Skinfood Mushroom is the best BB cream for my skin type (normal-dry). I got both shades just so I could compare. Also, some girls said that shade 1 is yellowish and light, while shade 2 is pinkish but darker. But here is a pic comparing the two: maybe my eyes are deceiving me, because I cannot see any difference at all! In fact, I used both shades (not at the same time, of course!) and didn’t see any difference even outside the sun. What do you think?
Does not smell like teen spirit
The first thing I noticed about it is the smell. I cannot say that it stinks, just quite strong. The smell kind of reminds me of…er, sanitary napkins. Seriously. You know how many sanitary napkin brands have this sort of flowery smell on them? Skinfood Mushroom is like that 😀
I am not into productos with strong perfume smells, but thankfully, the smell fades away quickly after application.
Beware the Inferius
Alas, another BB cream, another almost Inferious moment! Like most BB creams I have tried, SF Mushroom is on the pink-grey side. Definitely not for a yellow-toned gal like me. As I own both shades, I was able to compare their colors and suitability to my own skin tone. Unfortunately, both made me look washed out. OK, dead, if we are to go with the Harry Potter analogy. If you are tan/morena like many Filipinas, I do not recommend piling this on, as it will look like a grayish mask.
The BB cream alone does not look good on me; a bit of mineral powder helps make it look better.
To remedy this, I mixed the cream with liquid foundation. This way, I get the shade and the coverage I want and still get the benefits of a BB cream (sun protection, evening out the skin tone).
Oil Control
Almost no oil control, so if you have combination or oily skin, SF Mushroom might be a bad idea. I encontrar that my face gets a little shiny during midday, but it’s nothing that a little powder or oil control paper can’t fix. (I personally do not use oil control paper. Instead, I use a slightly damp facial tissue to gently blot my face. Takes away the oil and helps to freshen the skin at the same time).
Scars? What scars?
Despite the minuses, this BB cream scores big on the coverage department. It covers blemishes and scars like wow. Even without using powder on top, SF Mushroom evens out my complexion by hiding discolouration and blemishes. After 3 weeks of regular use, I also noticed that pimple marks have faded considerably.
Because of this, I think SF Mushroom will forever be in my BB cream arsenal!
Below are reviews from the popular Japanese site, Kuchikomi. I translated some of user opinions on SF Mushroom:
Fullmoon (Rating: 5/7): I use #2. I am not sure if it smells like mushroom or more like chrysanthemum, but I like it. I warm it in my hands entonces apply to my skin by patting. I remove the excess BB cream with a sponge then I apply face powder lightly. That’s it for my daily makeup. I am almost done with my first tube.
Miomi (Rating: 4/7):
I was finally able to visit the Skinfood store in Harajuku.
I was thinking I really wanted to get a BB cream. There were 3 kinds there, and chose this one, which was the most expensive entre the lot (about JPY 2300), but with good coverage. It was also more matte, as compared to the otras 2. I got shade no. 1.
Because of it’s texture, it is a little difficult to spread so I recommend mixing it with moisturizer or serum.
I am always conscious of my pimple marks and redness on my cheeks, so I normally use concealer and control color together. But I found that this alone covers really well! I use only this plus powder as my makeup on my days off. If you generally have good skin and prefer a matte finish, this would probably good to use this alone.
Myari (Rating: 4/7):
I am looking for a BB cream with good coverage, and I got interested in this because it is supposedly made of “food”. Entre the 3 kinds of BB cream in the store, this is the most moisturizing one. This does not dry my skin at all! I use shade #1 — it covers well and matches my tone exactly. It does not give a white cast on my face. I only need loose powder and I am all set to go! However, the smell is strong so I do not recommend this if you are sensitive to smells.
Tamago no naka kara (Rating: 3/7)
I have a sample of this in the 2nd shade, I think. It looks orangey. It covers well, the finish is matte and I do not need a finishing powder. I encontrar that if I use a finishing powder, I look like I am wearing a Noh mask. 🙁

I like Skinfood so I decided that I will get a BB cream from them. When I saw the word “mushroom”, I did not buy it because I hate mushrooms. But the store gave me a sample which I used when I went back to Japan. It was the best! ☆ It does not smell like mushroom at all and it matches me perfectly. My skin feels soft after putting this on. I really regret not buying one when I had the chance.

I love Skinfood and I wanted my first BB cream to be from them. I purchased this along with Skinfood Aloe BB Cream. I heard that this is more moisturizing and indeed it is; I used this during winter and spring. During summer, I combine it with sun block.
It is fácil
to spread, and I don’t think it covers well. But when applied lightly around the eye area, it does well as a concealer.
As for the smell, I think it smells like vinyl or something. (I am not very sensitive to smells, evidenced by the number of LUSH productos I use). My skin likes this and does not break me out. My favourite!
Ikushizu (Rating: 5/7)
I used a sample of #1. It looks natural and my skin looks moist. It does not feel heavy at all. I feel that it does not cover well so I still use foundation. My ranking would be: Inisfree > Skinfood > Etude House.
I recommend this if you want a more natural look, instead of a more made up look.
