I expected the 2nd night of the Battle Rounds to be much better than the first, but I was a little disappointed at how “mellow” the show was, compared to night 1. Maybe I was still reeling from the Anthony Evans-Jesse Campbell battle?? Haha. Here are the match ups and winners (underlined) of night 2:
1. Geoff McBride vs Sera Hill (Chain of Fools) – I thought the song was meant for Sera’s voice but it turned out to be a great combo of two powerful voices.
2. Charlotte Sometimes vs Lex Land (Pumped Up Kicks) – The song wasn’t really for Lex’s style and Charlotte’s personality really shone through in the performance. But surprisingly, Lex really held her own and she just sounded really sexy. Again, even if Charlotte was my favourite, I thought Lex would take it. Both of them were so great, it could have gone either way.
3. Sarah Golden vs Juliet Simms (Stay with Me) – Juliet may be the female Rod Stewart and this song may be made for her style and voice, but Sarah held her own against Juliet.
4. Whitney Dyer vs Kim Yarbrough (No More Drama) – Kim does the big Kim thing all throughout the song, but I am amazed by Whitney’s youthful grit.
5. Lindsay Pavao vs Lee Koch (Heart-shaped Box) – The battle of two unique voices! It was a brilliant match up. I just thought Lindsay seemed to be more consistent with her tone — and I am not saying that because she’s my favourite 😀
6. Jamar Rogers vs Jamie Lono (I Want To Know What Love Is) – Strange that during the rehearsals, Jamie’s voice kept on breaking. Good thing none of that happened during the Battle Round vs Jamar. In this battle, Jamar obviously has more power, grit and better stage presence. While Jamie is also great, Jamar’s confident performance propelled him to the Live Shows. Great final words from Jamie.
